Mild Steel and its techniques

I researched on characteristics and properties of mild steel. It is a type of low carbon steel. Carbon steels are metals that contain a small percentage of carbon. The Pros of Mild Steel is it is light and is considered as one of the most affordable types of steel. It has a high level of ductility and weldability. Although mild steel is considering as one of the weakest metals. It cannot be heat treated. It is mainly used in automobiles, furniture, fencing and much more. The product is comparatively sustainable as it is cost effective and recyclable. I attended the metal workshop and learned the basic techniques of how to cut, bend and weld the mild steel. I found it difficult to weld the metal but was able to improve after giving a few try on scrap metal pieces. After generating many ideas and sketches I selected my final hand tool and their concept behind the idea. I selected spoon as my final hand tool as I felt it is a very basic tool but has a lot of importance in our daily life. This tool also has also got a lot of potential to show concept of the hunger crisis and sharing food and to show this as an installation or an art piece. After selecting the hand tool, I further made more changes to my final idea. I created two prototypes out of cardboard. Making prototypes from cardboard has got many benefit as it free and very easy to find. After making three prototypes I was able to select the best outcome possible and started to make orthographic drawing and measurements.
