Surreal Hand Tool
Week 3 Blog
I was able to complete my first rotation product which was a surreal hand tool. I was able to meet most of my criteria for the project. My surreal tool was successful as it was unusable and bizarre. Honestly, I felt many criticisms from my friends who are not from designing field, unless they were told the meaning behind my surreal hand spoon and as a designer felt the true meaning of surrealism. I used the tools available in the workshop as well as used the techniques taught in the workshop sessions in the week 2 of the metal rotation. I felt confident while making this product as I tried to take make the product myself instead of taking the help from tutors. My work was a success as I had strong idea and connection to my surreal hand tool. I believe it was success because my work was well researched and I was able to learn about surrealism and take inspiration from many artist, designers and sculptors which helped me generate more great ideas. I believe I was able to generate many good ideas in this rotation and learn about the differences in commercial product and a gallery art piece having a deep meaning in the art. Because of limited time left I had to restrict myself from further developing my idea and I believe I could have created a better outcome. Therefore, I should improve my skills and techniques in metal so I can’t restrict the best outcome possible. I should have created more prototypes of my initial ideas as three-dimensional cardboard model gives a better perceptive of the outcome.
